Profile: Dave Shaw

Dave Shaw is the Goth with a sense of humour. Frequently referred to both inside and outside of Can’t Sing, Can’t Dance, Don’t Care as the “Asdagoth” (due to his former employment at a well known supermarket chain, whose name shall remain hidden) Dave takes inspiration from experiences and thoughts from not only his work life but also his gothic lifestyle, his friends, and everyday life and observations – it’s like The I.T. Crowd’s Richmond Avenal had a hair cut!

Having taken little to no interest in stand up comedy until his association with Can’t Sing, Can’t Dance, Don’t Care has allowed Dave to be himself on stage rather than emulating a comedic idol. However, among his favourite circuit comedians are Michael McIntyre, Lee Mack, John Bishop, and a relatively recent addition of Andrew O’Neill. Due to Andrew’s well deserved moniker of “The Occult Comedian,” his love of heavy metal, and his obscure dress sense, Dave has been able to relate to his style more than he has with any other professional. Dave’s earliest comic memories come from mostly his dad’s childish antics, and a TV diet of Harry Enfield and Chums, The Fast Show, One Foot In The Grave, and other popular – yet now outdated – comedy shows.

Having performed at various events of both CSCDDC and external origin including open mic nights, fund raisers for a number of causes, and a guest slot at Lancaster University, Dave is always eager to perform at more gigs and in front of bigger audiences.
